In the nineteenth century Livorno was one of the capitals of Italian seaside tourism, so much so that, starting essentially from the first half of the century, on the promenade were built numerous beaches, as the Rock of the Queen, and the Pancaldi Acquaviva. This season of intense fortune found its climax with the realization of the Hotel Palace (1884) and the construction of a major spa, known as Water of Health (1904).
